In a tennis match, game includes gaining points by each opponent. When a player wins four points in total or gains at least two points more than the opponent, he wins the game. The game starts with serving the ball which is decided by a toss before the warm up match. After that, each opponent gets to serve the ball alternately. When a player doesn’t return the shot, the other player gets a point.

While serving the ball, if the ball touches the net but falls in the other half of the court, it is considered legal and the server gets to serve the ball again. On the other hand, if the server is unable to throw the ball in the other side of the court for more than one time, the other player is given a point. There are various sets in a tennis match and each set includes multiple games.

A player can win a set either by winning six games in a set or at least two games more than the opponent. Match is consisting of multiple sets of a tennis games. It can be out of the best of 3 or five which means if its set of 3, the player that wins two sets, wins the match.

If you want to keep score for a tennis game, you need to understand the difference in match, set and game. Each match of tennis consists of 3 or 5 sets and each set has 6 games. The scoring starts with serving the tennis ball and each player get to serve the ball alternately. As soon a player wins four points in a game, he wins the game.

The first point has 15 points on the score sheet, the 2nd point has 30 points, the 3rd point has 40 points and the 4th point is the winning point. If a player can’t serve the ball more than one time, the other player gets a point which is considered as the 1st point resulting in 15 points on the score sheet for that player.
